Flowers are etched into the wood. He put hooks in for me as a favour. Now he will make them with hooks if asked!!

Again I don't know the origins of these shuttles but would love to know if someone can help. Bought separately. One from eBay and in the same week from Etsy!




Love this metal shuttle. I think it is a Hemline one but it just sits in my hand and sings when I use it!



5 gorgeous LaCossette shuttles from Etsy. I adore these shuttles and can always find room for more!! LaCossette modifies the Aero shuttles. They hold tension so much better and are pretty. Nothing like a pretty shuttle to lighten your mood!

This shuttle was in a group of shuttles I bought from eBay. Again no idea what brand or country of origin but the hook on it is huge!!

Dare not use this one because I know it will break if I try....




Now this one HAS to be a bit rare! Another eBay purchase. The seller didn't know anything about it. Has a spike protruding from the front. Doesn't look like it was a hook the broke or anything. Doesn't retract.Anyone able to identify it? Not in any of the books I have.

Tiny little things!! Oddly though they are really nice to use with very find thread!



After much controversy on Tatting Shuttle Addicts about whether this shuttle was sound (in the eBay photos the markings looked like crazing) I contacted a very beautiful seller who sent me some more photos and secured the sale!!! I love this shuttle. It is sturdy and pretty and very sleek to use without being slippery.

It is plastic with pearl-like plastic segments but very smooth.




Stainless steel shuttles from Pawel in Poland. Took a while to track this maker down but when I finally did he was most helpful.





This lot of shuttles were bought from eBay mainly for the clear one. About the same size as a Clover but perhaps a tiny bit bulkier. Love the feel of it. Great thing about this win was that I was able to participate in a "Pay It Forward" deal by sending the Milward to Fiona T!!

I wanted a small Celtic shuttle and she certainly managed it!
This little beauty is made of ebony and measures....
7mm wide x 5mm thick and 60 mm long.

Truly a feat of woodworking!!

Mixed lot from eBay. Love the metal one it fits so neatly into my hand and has great tension.









Above and right.....my every growing collection of Neil Keats shuttles. His ones far outweigh any of the non-hook shuttles available. They are a delight to work with and Neil is a wonderful gentleman who is also a delight to deal with!

I kept a couple of these for myself and gave the rest away as Christmas and birthday gifts.



Some Boye metal shuttles from eBay. I was quite interested to see the difference in the sizes.




Another eBay stash from the UK. I was really excited about the bobbin in the packet only to be very disappointed that it was actually just a plain black plastic post shuttle and the bobbin had just been put in there for safekeeping......oh well... At least ther were a couple of Milwards, a metal Aero and a plastic Aero to keep me happy....

    You've added some wonderful shuttles to your collection! I wondered who won that gorgeous leaf shuttle on eBay. It's one of my all-time-favorites. I really like those little brass shuttles from Poland. Do you have contact information? I would love to add some to my collection!

      Hi Diane. I can't find the link for the stainless ones from Poland at the moment but will email you when I do. The leaf shuttle wasn't quite as nice in real life as it was in the pics. It is hairclips welded together and tarnished. She has sold a few of them since I bought mine.

      It was ridiculously easy. The clips were the perfect bend once I stuck the plastic bobbin inside. The bobbin is a bit wider than the ones from the aero and aerlit shuttles though. Don't know how long it would last in use but it was a bit of fun. About the size of a Tatsy.

      LOL it is a bit scary when you do. This isn't all of them either! There are some prototypes I can't show at the moment and some that were "lost" or borrowed at the time I took the photo

This one might not count cos it is not strictly a stand alone motif. But it was so cute I just had to see if it would slip on in there!!! This is the centre of the larger project I have just started. MOTIF 8 The pattern was designed by Lene Bjorn and was found in Orkis Bladet - the magazine of the Danish Tatting Association (Dansk Orkisforening). However there is some controversy surrounding this one. It is also in Lyn Morton's book Tatting Patterns......either way it is a lovely motif! The thread is Garden Afternoon by Yarnplayer. Size 20. Deceptive patterns

Belinda Spence put up a challenge in the facebook group Tatting the Australian Way. https://www.facebook.com/groups/847655165276159/ It was a free pattern and anyone could participate. Well....it LOOKED easy enough. But it actually has a more than usual level of concentration required, as we pretty much all found out! First attempt and I made the rookie mistake of thinking it was a rock along easy pattern so I used Alenalea Rako HDT...... and suffered the consequences. After attempt number 1.... after cutting out a repeat of the pattern because I joined in the wrong place (twice),I ended up untatting 9 rings in an attempt to not run out of thread. THIS is what I had left! This was the result of the first attempt. Really love Lea's HDT. Withstands unpicking beautifully and always feels great to tat with. So I decided to try it again..... This time with Altin Basak 50 in red and Butterfly gold thread Version 3 was a breeze. A couple of small unpicks and swearing at the fraying L...

Farewell my wonderful Jamie.

I have not posted here in a while. I have been tatting  -  I have things to show for sure. But I need to express myself today. This is not tatting related so skip if you want. It is me needing to put a horrible event in to perspective and gain control to move on. On the 10th July I  lost the one most important thing in my life quite unexpectedly and nothing has really seemed worthwhile. To those of you who knew Jamie in person or through his (usually wicked) forays into the chats on MSN you will know how much he loved life, a good laugh, good company and that he gave me his incredible support in my chosen vice - tatting. To those of you who did not know him. You have missed knowing one of the most charming, intelligent, caring and loving individuals that has ever walked this earth. I have to post here - my voice to the outside world. I have to have an avenue to express publicly how much this man meant to me. Get it out there in words. But the words are so har...
