OK.... this is getting silly now.... The former tatting addict is getting those urges again. Can hardly believe how much time has gone by since I picked up a shuttle and thread.


SOOOOOO.... the challenge is on. I need something to inspire me to tat again. Not too big, not too small, and DEFINITELY not too fiddly....


Anyone got any ideas??

    So nice to 'see' you again! Jewelry, doodads and beads, plus Celtic tatting, layered tatting, and Jan Stawasz pieces, are popular, plus revivals of Norma Benporath via Jon Yusoff. And, of course, bookmarks! And Renulek (see Fox) also has amazing designs. Lots of activity (happily) in Tat Land!

    I always enjoy the eye candy on your blog, plus the excellent slide show! Your tatting will be up to speed in no time!

    Do you have any of Julie Patterson's books, or Mary Konior's? I think either of those would be good inspiration without a terrible amount of difficulty. (Hate to scare you off!)

      after all this time tatting doubt you could scare me off.....LOL Just wanted something pretty and not too hard to get me going again brain wise!!
      I have all of Julie's books and also of Mary Konior's - love them and have made most of the patterns in them over the years.

    Have a look at the Lace Mat on Jon's blog; she ran a challenge last year, and there are so many gorgeous versions to inspire you! And it's a really pretty design, you'll enjoy it.

Belinda Spence put up a challenge in the facebook group Tatting the Australian Way. https://www.facebook.com/groups/847655165276159/ It was a free pattern and anyone could participate. Well....it LOOKED easy enough. But it actually has a more than usual level of concentration required, as we pretty much all found out! First attempt and I made the rookie mistake of thinking it was a rock along easy pattern so I used Alenalea Rako HDT...... and suffered the consequences. After attempt number 1.... after cutting out a repeat of the pattern because I joined in the wrong place (twice),I ended up untatting 9 rings in an attempt to not run out of thread. THIS is what I had left! This was the result of the first attempt. Really love Lea's HDT. Withstands unpicking beautifully and always feels great to tat with. So I decided to try it again..... Motif 8??

This one might not count cos it is not strictly a stand alone motif. But it was so cute I just had to see if it would slip on in there!!! This is the centre of the larger project I have just started. MOTIF 8 The pattern was designed by Lene Bjorn and was found in Orkis Bladet - the magazine of the Danish Tatting Association (Dansk Orkisforening). However there is some controversy surrounding this one. It is also in Lyn Morton's book Tatting Patterns......either way it is a lovely motif! The thread is Garden Afternoon by Yarnplayer. Size 20. Given to me by my best mate Dantatter.
