The UFO is conquered!!

Image
AHA!!! No UFO is going to beat me.......(most of the time anyway) Finally finished this annoying little treasure. I started this on the way back from Denmark in 2010. I put it away after the flight home and forgot about it until I went through my UFO list in 2011 and decided to finish it. Travelling along feeling happy about how it was progressing (as you do) when....... (as it does when you forget to concentrate and get all "I KNOW this pattern" I don't need to look) I had completely stuffed up in the early rounds and there was no way to cut it out and repair!!! The whole outside was a one pass job so I cut it off ready to start again but looking at it gave me a headache so I decided to start it all over again! So finally here it is!!! The pattern is a round robin from the Danish Tatting Association magazine Orkis Bladet The designers were Inga Madsen, Ineke Kuiperij and Edwige Renaudin. Thread is DMC Cordonnet Special size 30 and the doily measures 26cm in diameter. ...

Extreme and pleasant diversions....

Recently we decided to take a break and go away for a couple of days. The second anniversary of us getting engaged was coming up and we decided to head back down to Queenscliff to celebrate. That was the pleasant side of things! We booked in to the delightful SeaView Guest House in Queenscliff and were really happy with the place. A definite one to go back to! The weather was wonderful and we instantly relaxed when we got there... and that was a GOOD thing.... because... The next day (the anniversary of our engagement) I had booked in to use a voucher I had received for my 50th (2 years ago...can't rush these things!) For...... An aerobatic flight in a Warbird!!!!!! A CJ-6A Nanchang to be exact! Yep... Can't just go around photographing the things....gotta get up close and personal and LIVE it! Seriously one of the BEST things I have ever done in my life!!!!!!! So many thanks to Ben for being prepared to stay on the ground while I flew for a change, for being my photographer f...

Heading back to Stawasz

Image
I originally did a motif from this doily years ago and always wanted to try it as a mat. So off I went. Not exactly sticking to the "finish all your UFOs before doing anything else' plan. But I needed a diversion......my excuse and I am sticking to it! Thread is Venus size 40. The last of my 40 stash so I am very very sad...... Hint hint... anyone wanting to sell thread on eBay THIS is a beauty! .

Farewell my beautiful Alli.

Tonight we lost one of the great dogs of my life. My Alli. Taken too soon at just 8 years of age. We encountered Alli on the way home from a trip to Mt Buller with Susanne (Dantatter) during her trip out here in 2006. A random stop that started an amazing set of events. Susanne had never owned a dog and for an hour or so Alli was actually hers! But once handed over to Jamie it was evident whose dog companion she really was. My heeler was getting on and we convinced Jamie to get her and Susanne and I went over and collected her. Alli went to work with Jamie every day and was his constant companion. When Jamie died, Alli was instrumental (along with Terra and the horses) in keeping me on this earth. A fun, crazy, and sometimes frustrating, but loyal and obedient dog that I adored. She watched over me with sincere patience and concern and licked away my tears or goaded me into action when I was down. Alli was "out of sorts" one morning when I came home from work. Prior to t...

A UFO crashes.....

There I was, happily tatting along on a project I started way back in 2011 and feeling pretty darn good about it all when..... CRASH! BANG!!! CRAP CRAP CRAP ( an other assorted naughty words....) TOTALLY messed this one up LOL Not all is lost though. I didn't like the thread anyway so I am restarting this one in Cordonet Special...Stay tuned. The fleet will continue it's journey....

A UFO lands!

Another Stawasz beauty. This time done in Cordonnet Special...much nicer to tat with although still a bit stiff for my liking. Even this one had it's fair share of lapses in concentration!!

Doing a roaring trade here in UFOs! This is a pattern from Renulek  http://renulek.blogspot.jp/search/label/serwetka%20%C5%9Bnie%C5%BCna%20-%20on%20line Her doilies are just brilliant to tat. Thank you for sharing your vast talent with us Renulek! Will certainly be trying more from this site. This one is the Spring Doily Done in Perfect Quilter. Off to a flying start! Until I wasn't......joined in totally the wrong place! Easy fix! Nearly done without any more hitches! Ta da!!!!!!!! Not going any further with this one because I ran out of thread. Like it at this point anyway! .
