Motif 10

I have fallen in love with this little pattern.

I was intending to do Lace-lovin' Librarian's "Tribute to Myra Piper" but could not decide what colors to use. So in the meantime I tatted the centre and liked it enough that it will stay as is and become my MOTIF 10



Myra Piper pattern from her book Tatting. Thread is Tourmaline by Yarnplayer. Size 40. Colors are just divine! Don't show up nearly as rich as they are in real life. One of those "must have" colors!!!

    Very pretty! I do love Myra's little book, and this pattern is one of my favorites! Wouldn't it look lovely with a deep chocolate brown, or a luscious raspberry? The possibilities are endless!

    I agree, this is a pretty pattern and such a lovely color thread. I have some of this colorway and love the rich colors.

    So - I am not just talk... I have completed that pattern and it almost drove me nuts! I kept going the wrong way and there was a lot of bad language as I un-tatted...

    I will post the finished piece, which I really like, but it is truy and obviously a first attempt, soon! Thanks for the inspiration!

Motif 8??

This one might not count cos it is not strictly a stand alone motif. But it was so cute I just had to see if it would slip on in there!!! This is the centre of the larger project I have just started. MOTIF 8 The pattern was designed by Lene Bjorn and was found in Orkis Bladet - the magazine of the Danish Tatting Association (Dansk Orkisforening). However there is some controversy surrounding this one. It is also in Lyn Morton's book Tatting Patterns......either way it is a lovely motif! The thread is Garden Afternoon by Yarnplayer. Size 20. Given to me by my best mate Dantatter.

Deceptive patterns

Belinda Spence put up a challenge in the facebook group Tatting the Australian Way. https://www.facebook.com/groups/847655165276159/ It was a free pattern and anyone could participate. Well....it LOOKED easy enough. But it actually has a more than usual level of concentration required, as we pretty much all found out! First attempt and I made the rookie mistake of thinking it was a rock along easy pattern so I used Alenalea Rako HDT...... and suffered the consequences. After attempt number 1.... after cutting out a repeat of the pattern because I joined in the wrong place (twice),I ended up untatting 9 rings in an attempt to not run out of thread. THIS is what I had left! This was the result of the first attempt. Really love Lea's HDT. Withstands unpicking beautifully and always feels great to tat with. So I decided to try it again.....
