Ta da!!

Finally finished the doily. I have to consider this a humbling pattern. One I kinda wish I hadn't used good HDT on for a first try. It looks ok(ish) but some of the joins were hard to work out and I have had to use up a lot of my precious thread correcting things. But hey - it is a learning experience....every new challenge a reason to get excited. Might sit a bit better once I block it tomorrow.

Regardless it is still an awesome pattern by an awesome designer!!!!! Thanks Lene for the beautiful pattern and thanks Susanne for the thread.

Now onto the next motif!!!!!

The details of pattern and thread are already shown below the centre piece pic shown in the last post "Motif 8??"

  3. This is the most beautiful doily I have seen. Well done!

Where did you manage to get the Danish magazine from?

  4. Oh you lucky girl, an awesome doily and some more new threads.:-)

  5. Your doily is absolutely gorgeous! Do you have information on the Danish Guild? I don't know a word of Danish, but I'd sure be interested in seeing what they have to offer!

  6. Thanks for your comments.
I am sure you can find the Danish group if you google it. They have a newsletter that comes out 4 times a year.

  7. Beautiful design and beautiful thread!

  8. That is stunning! I love looking at the very center and seeing a flower, then when I look out a bit it turns into heart shapes. The thread reminds me of vine of flowers. It really sets off the motif.

  9. the doily looks fine and absolutely lovely, esp in those colors.

  10. Very Pretty. Happy Tatting!

  11. I KNEW you were working on the doily, and couldn't wait to see it! I certainly wasn't disappointed! What a lovely design! Again, the thread by Marilee is just gorgeous, and your work is perfect!

Before I read your text, I thought - "Wow, how lucky she had enough thread!" not imagining you were having some difficulties with joins and were using up more thread than you planned. However, I certainly can't see any obvious problems!

Now that we're in this new era of front-side tatting, "down" joins, and other modern techniques (not to mention enlarged photos on blogs!), I realize that my previous work was kind of 'sloppy'. It's precise tatting like yours and others that has inspired me to slow down and be more precise - after 20 years!

Also, thanks for your quick reply to my question on your previous post about going from chains to rings.

  12. That thread is absolutely gorgeous. I already tried to google for the Danish group but couldn't make head nor tales of the website so I've given up but maybe one day.

  13. It looks magnificent! - I don't think you wasted your HDT at all, but it is a slippery slope you've embarked on.......

  14. OK-ish??! I think your tatting is wonderful to look at. All of your motifs are such inspiration to me! My tatting needs a lot of work - mine is less than OK-ish most of the time :)

  15. Your tatting is just beautiful. And what a wonderful choice of thread with this pattern. Fabulous!

  16. Thanks - you are all wonderful and looking at your blogs I think your tatting is great. I learn something every time I go looking at the amazing blogs available online. That is what has got me back into tatting.

Cindy - just remember that all you are going to see here is the successes....not the 101 failures sitting on the lounge room floor!!!!!

  17. Hi Liyarra,

It's me chiming in again, with an AMAZING
coincidence! I was searching the web for Mary Konior's other books as I have only the one - Visual Patterns - , and there was a site that had not only a nice listing of tatting books but also a free tatting pattern. When I clicked on the tab, a pattern similar to your Motif 8 came up!! The motif is called 'Hearts and Flowers' by Lyn Morton. Lyn has several books also, and it looks as if that pattern is also in her 'Tatting Patterns' book. If you Google "Tatting and Designs" you'll see Lyn's site (and bookstore)and the pattern.

I have started tatting it in red thread and it does look similar, but I don't know if it's exactly the same, especially in the very center. I hope to finish it for a Valentine post!

  18. Hi Kathy. Yep I looked up that book and the patterns are quite similar.Hers is just a centre though - not the whole doily.
The Danish pattern has- Design og udførelse (Design and construction/workmanship) by Lene Bjørn on the page.
I will have to look further through the magazine. Perhaps Lyn Morton did a workshop??? There is another pattern using that style of heart in another of the newsletters.
I will get back to you on it.
For now my labelling stands until I find out otherwise.
    Thanks for your input.

  19. Kathy, I found that too this morning before work and thought it was similar but wasn't going to say anything in case it was just me being blind!

  20. For those of you who are desperate for this pattern. Lyn Morton has her version on her website for free...
